The Importance of Breakfast

On WebMD, Dulce Zamora writes, "there are 13 ways to boost your chances of living a happy, healthy life."  The first one is "Eat Breakfast Every Morning."  Now, for a lot of my friends, myself included, breakfast is not a typical part of my day unless you consider the banana or yogurt I eat on my way to class or when I get to class at 11:00 am.  Although I have been told that something small is better than nothing at all (and I agree), it is my goal to increase the amount of food and the variety of food I eat in the morning.

"To get the full benefits of breakfast, the Mayo Clinic recommends a meal with carbohydrates, protein, and a small amount of fat. They say that because no single food gives you all of the nutrients you need, eating a variety of foods is essential to good health." - Dulce Zamora (WebMD)

The foods that I am going to try to incorporate in my morning diet are...

  • Carbs (such as toast) - vital for boosting energy and mood.
  • Eggs - a very good source of protein. (egg whites as healthier option)
  • Nuts (Cashews or Almonds) - not only rich in protein, but they also contain magnesium, a mineral that plays a vital role in converting sugar into energy.
  • Brazil Nuts - natural mood booster.
  • Fresh Fruit - a way to start the day hydrated and energized.
  • Granola - good source of fiber.
